Just a few hours from Riverton you can visit the world's greatest treasures. Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Teton National Park, where God put his signature on his creation by sculpting "The Grand Tetons". The most spectacular drive to first see the"Tetons" is the drive from Riverton through Dubois and over the Continental Divide where the Tetons first come into view. The valley will open up and you will get to experience a spectacular site, "The Tetons".
Local The historical "Gold" mining towns of South Pass City and Atlantic City is just an hours drive from Riverton in Fremont County. Fremont County has many historical sites, ranging from pre-historical rock art, Indian Missions, Pow Wow's, and Sundances.
Riverton was once a "Rendezvous" site for early settlers and Mountain Men. The Mountain Men traveled hundreds of miles each year to trade beaver pelts for trade goods. Riverton celebrates this annual rendezvous at the actual "1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous" site. The 1838 site is located at the joining of the Big Winds and Little Wind Rivers at the edge of the Riverton city limits.
In addition, the annaul mountain man celebration, Riverton hosts an annual "Rendezvous Balloon Rally" with 20 or more hot air balloons and a "Day in the Park Celebration" where vendors sell their special handmade crafts. The local Native American's entertain the crowd with dancing in Native costume.
